The dossier of this issue is titled Consuming the City: Social-Cultural Practices of Consumption in Latin America and is coordinated by Melina Teubner and Andrés Dapuez. This dossier explores a global phenomenon that has been relatively understudied from the perspective of Latin American cities. The articles in this volume examine the formation of consumer societies, consumption as an event, aspirational consumer cultures, government policies, marketing initiatives, media advertising, and various other socio-cultural processes. The contributions delve into how consumption has transformed Latin American cities, how the acquisition and use of goods and services shape and reshape urban spaces, which sites of consumption have been significant, and the roles played by both local and global actors in these dynamics.
